Planning the Pilot Phase
The first pilot fish pond will be small and simple. It will help us test what works before expanding. Key plans include:
1)Choosing a secure site near a water source
2)Designing the pond using local materials
3)Deciding which fish to start with — likely tilapia or catfish
4)Setting up water access and basic drainage
We’re also preparing a plan for feeding, cleaning, monitoring fish health, and harvesting — all of which will be done by youth under supervision.
What We Need to Get Started
We’re currently raising support to help cover:
1)Tools and pond materials (liners, tanks, nets)
2)Fingerlings (baby fish) and starter feed
3)Simple water testing kits
4)Basic training and mentorship costs
We welcome donations, technical guidance, and volunteer support from individuals, businesses, and local government.
What Youth Will Learn
This project will serve as a live training ground. Each participant will gain skills in:
1)Pond design and maintenance
2)Fish feeding, health, and growth tracking
3)Cost tracking and sales planning
4)Group work and problem solving
Over time, they can use this experience to manage their own small ponds or expand the group’s operations.
