What We’re Doing Now
Stakeholder Mapping
We’ve started meeting with key players including:
1)Beach operators and fishers
2)Local authorities and security teams
3)Hotels and tour guides
4)Youth and community elders
We’re identifying areas of overlap and conflict, and finding ways to work together on clear roles and shared goals.
Clean-Up and Awareness Drives
We are leading small clean-up activities along the beach while building awareness about waste, safety, and beach use rules. These early steps give youth hands-on involvement and get the community used to seeing them as stewards of the beach.
Mapping Immediate Beach Use Zones
We are helping outline zones for fishing, swimming, vending, and recreation — reducing friction and creating better order on the beach.
What the Youth Will Learn
Through this program, young people will gain:
1)Practical skills in coastal waste management
2)Basics of environmental conservation
3)Communication and conflict resolution
4)Monitoring and reporting unsafe or illegal activities
5)Coordinating with authorities and other stakeholders
We are also encouraging youth to form beach patrol groups in coordination with community policing programs.
Tools and Support We Need
To scale this program, we’re seeking support for:
1)Branded waste bins and signs
2)Clean-up gear (gloves, boots, rakes, sacks)
3)Identification badges and T-shirts for youth teams
4)First-aid kits and safety training
5)Small grants for group transport and refreshments
This is a low-cost, high-impact initiative with immediate benefits for locals, tourists, and the environment
